P320: Rare large decorative late 18th Century English Chess set made by Calvert of London.

In natural and stained. Kings 10.5cms, knights are very finely turned and carved from one piece.
Has the very rare decoratively carved kings and queens tops, early form, probably made while John Calvert ran his firm.
One of the best sets of this type we have had and one of our new favorites as a result.
Calvert was a premiere maker of the period in London for the noble class.
