This Early French chess set's overall design was shown by the famous 18th-century philosopher Denis Diderot in his "Encyclopédie" book, a comprehensive guide of the era.

Early 18th century, amazing patina throughout. One of our favorite sets and has good provenance. Note fine rose turning on bodies of main pieces. Kings 9.2cms
