This is an exceptional boxed club-size Edinboro Upright boxwood and ebony chess set, probably made by J.Jaques of London and retailed by William Leuchars of 38 Picadilly, London.
The set comes in its original velvet lined mahogany slide top chess box with Leuchars label to the underside. Leuchars was a manufacture and retailer in London of high end objects for the gentleman and lady of the period.
